From Korth: “Dark purple with blue/lavender watermark, green throat, and a white, toothy edge.
(Richard Raeker x Worthy of All Praise) x (Free to Dance x Judgment Day)
We knew Return of the King was going to be an introduction several years ago. It just needed time to increase to have enough to sell. It is one of those plants that just does not have any significant flaws. Flowers are good openers, nearly blemish free, have good substance, and occasionally rebloom for us. The scapes are tall and sturdy with good branching. No problem with hardiness as all the plants lined out for the winter of 2025 came through without a problem.
As a breeding plant, it has already produced two seedlings that will be introductions in the coming years and many more that are under evaluation. We will see more next summer as we loaded Return of the King with seed pods from some of Karol Emmerich’s newer purples and are looking forward to that. It is pod and pollen fertile and passes its fine characteristics to its offspring. The best trait it passes on is the lack of blemishes on the dark flower petals.
Return of the King is an excellent all-around plant and we know our customers will enjoy it.” Dormant. 21 buds. Pix from Korth.
