According to Pierce: "Just as the name says, this is one Big Blossom. ASSIGNED FOR SIZE stays big, you can feel the weight in your hands! She is a light polychrome but more on the white/cream side. The base color is a clean cream with a hint of pink and lemon with deeper veining of lemon chartreuse. The 2 5/8" extra wide sepals are a solid almost white. She is very Ruffled with 4 3/4” wide overlapping petals, and with TRFK, has twice the substance. The ruffles are also colored in darker lemon. Then there is the lovely chartreuse lemon center which spills out onto the 100% Diamond Dusted petals. ASSIGNED FOR SIZE also sits on sets of TALL sturdy scapes, which hold up this masterpiece. According to Holmes: "BLOODSPORT is a medium melon pink on hotter days to a more purple shades on cooler days. The toothy greenish-gold edge always shows itself in our garden. This daylily was selected on maiden bloom. I was looking for a toothy daylily in the cross with improved color over BASS GIBSON. In my opinion BLOODSPORT captured this quality. Well branched and lots of buds for such a large flower. Nice thick scapes to hold them up. Producing some very nice seedlings! Diamond dusted. Fertile both ways. Flowers are purple and lighter rose-purple eye and green throat. Sepals and petals are covered in white teeth, hooks, tentacles, and fangs. This is my favorite and best to date. I know of no other narrow with teeth that comes even close to Alligator Alley. As you study the flower, the number of teeth is amazing. From Gossard: "Blue Beetle has creme pink flowers with a eye zone of charcoal, light blue, blue, lavender blue, lavender purple, purple, maroon and maroon red. Petals even have a start of a gold edge, see outside photo. Blue Beetle is my best introduction for 2010 for many reasons. One of the difficulties of hybridizing for Blue eyed daylilies is that they are blue in the morning and by noon they are more lavender. Blue Beetle is my best one which retains the blue eye in the afternoon, it was and still is my number 1 parent for blue daylilies. Substance is very good and flowers hold up to the evening hours. Thus, I consider Blue Beetle a real break though. Third of the way through bloom, it starts to double. Rebloom scapes can be fully double. Because it does not double all the time, it was not registered as a double. Blue Beetle's form is in between and can be utilized in round or narrow hybridizing." It is an ivory with a multiple patterned eye of amethyst, beet purple, mauve, flax blue and charcoal with a citron green throat and petal edge of beet purple and lavender. Two things I especially like about BENEATH STILL WATERS are it never has a “bad hair day” where the blooms hang up or don’t open. It is always open nice and flat and it is always in bloom. Once it starts blooming it sends up scape after scape. The scapes are somewhat of a curiosity.
