From Gossard: "Blue Beetle has creme pink flowers with a eye zone of charcoal, light blue, blue, lavender blue, lavender purple, purple, maroon and maroon red. Petals even have a start of a gold edge, see outside photo. Blue Beetle is my best introduction for 2010 for many reasons. One of the difficulties of hybridizing for Blue eyed daylilies is that they are blue in the morning and by noon they are more lavender. Blue Beetle is my best one which retains the blue eye in the afternoon, it was and still is my number 1 parent for blue daylilies. Substance is very good and flowers hold up to the evening hours. Thus, I consider Blue Beetle a real break though. Third of the way through bloom, it starts to double. Rebloom scapes can be fully double. Because it does not double all the time, it was not registered as a double. Blue Beetle's form is in between and can be utilized in round or narrow hybridizing." This one stunner should be introduced in 2027, according to it's divisions growth rate this summer after being lined up. It produces a unique flower where the true blue is emphasized by the contrast with the white base colour. Pretty much the same presentation on a daily basis, with very few "odd" flowers. More data later on this year. We currently have it growing in a rather shady area; we'll move it and see how it performs in full sun. Maybe a 2027 intro, maybe a 2028. Who knows. Stay put!
