From Pierce: "For most of my adult life I have been telling people that as a daylily hybridizer I breed for bigger and better and am ultimately looking for a flower that “Genetically jumps the fence”. Well that day has arrived in SWAN SONG. I remember walking the seedling fields one morning and there she was… One white bloom in amongst a long cross of a lavender and a rose/pink flowers. As I got closer I could see how different she looked. No way was this just a white seed that had been mixed up. Here was a super heavy substance white with a 1% pink base, bright sparkles and green everywhere. Over half the throat, and into the ruffled petals as well. That was 4 years ago and I still just stare, and use her heavily. GUY'S SWAN SONG will set almost every flower, and she throws BETTER / BIGGER and TALLER! I have a future big white & green where the scape comes up to my chest. Every year I load her up with pods starting in April, May, then into July. That takes a lot of energy. I Harvest the pods, break her up and line her out in the full fun. We never use Banrot etc. and have not lost a plant. I say to you quite proudly; GUY'S SWAN SONG is priceless, for many, many reasons. Whites covered in green for me have become a whole new Program/Passion. We're so happy we got our hands on one of these. It blooms the exact same colour as in the pix from Pierce. According to Pierce: "I just love this daylily. Not red, and so I did not flag her in the field (at first) because she was not red. Silly Me! EVERY time I walked by I could not stop and stare, like it had a hold on me. From Gossard: "Heman, the name says it all, the biggest baddest daylily in the universe. I have seen first blooms at 10 inches with a monster 1 inch edge. Heman is an improved HEAVENLY BEGINNINGS, with better color and bigger edge. I know of no other large daylily with such a gigantic edge, it always has a 1/2 to 3/4 inch edge no matter the environmental conditions. Flowers are a blended orange-red with huge 3/4 to 1 inch gold yellow edges. Teeth are on both petals and sepals, throat is yellow green. Flowers are bitone with sepals being more blended with yellow People have been talking about how to get edges on the spiders, Heman is a key parent for obtaining this quest. Now HIGH MOUNTAIN DEW is not green, But, and here it is… They ARE coming, step by step using Tens of thousands of seed, AND Time. But this is for another day. Visitors have commented, and I feel it is a fair, close example, they say “That big one looks like a huge Tennis Ball”, I will tell you “She is certainly NOT a yellow”.
