The hope is to produce great flowers with new genetics that will thrive in our northern climates. Many of these attempts fail but some are successful. 'My Living Hope' is a success story. We used the southern bred 'Cutting Loose' with the hope of incorporating its lovely color and form into our northern hardy flowers. The flowers of 'My Living Hope' are a clear lavender enhanced by a ruffled white edge and lighter watermark. Like many flowers in our garden, the petal color of MLH will vary with bloom season temperatures being darker in cool weather. MLH blooms early in the season for us but gives us another show a month later through rebloom. As a breeder, 'My Living Hope' is fertile both ways and has given us some fine seedlings." Dormant. This one has it all! Light pink with an olive green heart and a celery green eye that covers ninety percent of the flower face, extremely thick substance, matching green ruffled edge, bitone. From Korth: "Lavender petals with light lavender watermark around a green throat, the petals are edged with gold. My Redeemer Lives is a product of two of our finest purple daylilies. While it is much lighter in color, the lavender flowers are showy and the gold edge is larger than either parent. Most days the flowers display a bi-color look with the sepals being a shade lighter than the petals. While neither parent has a significant watermark, My Redeemer Lives has a large watermark that adds to the flower presentation. In the garden, My Redeemer Lives is a reliable bloomer with flowers that open well without blemishes. The scapes are sturdy with good bud count that display the flowers well. As a hybridizing plant, we have not explored My Redeemer Lives as we should have. The lavender watermark is similar to Servant to All while the near white patches on the sepals come from Sign of Jonah. The name also reflects both parents and is a tribute to the biblical prophet Jonah who was a servant of Yahweh even if he was reluctant. As a garden plant, My Servant Jonah excels. The flowers open well, and the scapes are tall and well branched. It was hardy enough to survive our 2025 winter without missing a beat. The genetics of My Servant Jonah and the ease of setting pods make this plant a powerful breeder. From Korth: "Rich pink with lighter pink band around large green throat. What a joy Neon Splendor is in the early season garden. When we started in daylilies over 30 years ago, pink daylilies were muddy gray or tan with pink overtones. Now we enjoy this true neon pink daylily with large size, a lighter pink watermark, and large green throat. Daylilies have come a long way. Neon Splendor has long been a favorite here for its bright color. In 2024, we had a lot of plants lined out in preparation for sales in 2025 and for several weeks in the early season, it was the star of the garden. Flowers opened well in a variety of weather conditions, held up well in the hot sun, and we had rebloom on some plants. We started hybridizing with Neon Splendor the last few years and observed some promising seedlings from it this summer. Well of Salvation x ((Mary Vertz x (Blue Ambition x Healing Waters) x Sign of Jonah) – Seedling 6-4 Newness of Life was special from its maiden bloom in 2020. It was the “bluest” flower we had seen in the garden, and we immediately spread pollen on everything we could. Over the years, the flowers were consistently beautiful, and Newness of Life has been a key genetic piece in our hybridizing program. We have shown pictures of seedling 6-4 (now Newness of Life) in many presentations and on Facebook for several years so this plant and its beauty is no secret. As a garden plant, Newness of Life is outstanding – scapes and buds are good but the flowers are nearly perfect every bloom and we look forward to seeing the blooms every day in bloom season. We have not allowed our garden clump of Newness of Life to exceed 4 fans in an effort to propagate it rapidly. I can envision a mature clump of Newness of Life being a showstopper in the garden with many perfect blossoms displayed at the same time. As a hybridizing plant, Newness of Life excels in being both pod and pollen fertile. In 2025, we are collecting large pods from Newness of Life and are eager to see the results. In 2020, we took the first blooms of Newness of Life and spread pollen to more mature plants. We have several potential introductions from those initial crosses and have seen many more fine seedlings in subsequent years. In most cases, Newness of Life will produce seedlings that exceed the parents in beauty and plant habit. Going back to grandparent Sign of Jonah, Newness of Life shows pale lavender or white patches on the sepals. This is a showy trait, and it is passed on from Newness of Life to its offspring. Seedling 502-12 is an offspring of Newness of Life, and it is one of the most unique seedlings we have seen with a large white patch on the sepal along with a white edge on the sepal." From Gossard: "Flowers are brandy wine purple with lighter wine patterned watermark, white, wine and purple edge, and a green throat. Sometimes flowers have white streaks. The streaked photos are from two pots I had in green house, blooms are variable, I have 10 plants of one showing the streaking. They are $200 single fans only. Have 40 fans that sometimes would see same in a few fans outside, they are $100 each. Probably all is the same, however I have used the ones that showed the trait. It is unknown if you will see such or not. But if you can see it you can breed for it. Several other hybridizers have some of this look, be interesting to see where this look goes. Wester's Red Bloomers of mine also dose this occasionally. Have a tetra Sharin' The Secret seedling which also dose this. First photo belove is more typical.
