From Gossard: "Blue Beetle has creme pink flowers with a eyezone of charcoal, light blue, blue, lavender blue, lavender purple, purple, maroon and maroon red. Petals even have a start of a gold edge, see outside photo. Blue Beetle is my best introduction for 2010 for many reasons. One of the difficulties of hybridizing for Blue eyed daylilies is that they are blue in the morning and by noon they are more lavender. Blue Beetle is my best one which retains the blue eye in the afternoon, it was and still is my number 1 parent for blue daylilies. Substance is very good and flowers hold up to the evening hours. Thus, I consider Blue Beetle a real break though. Third of the way through bloom, it starts to double. Rebloom scapes can be fully double. Because it dose not double all the time, it was not registered as a double. Blue Beetle's form is in between and can be utilized in round or narrow hybridizing." From Pierce: "From a long cross of about a hundred seeds came several greens and/or green-edged keepers, with only one making the final cut. There were some real beauties but… they did not have all (5) requirements; Height, Health, Buds, Branching and Beauty. The best of this cross was a full dormant that would put up an early scape without any foliage. This sib had the greenest teeth you ever saw, but in good conscience I could not release it with only 20 buds. From Korth: "Lavender petals with lavender blue eye and edge. Pinewood Miracle Worker was one of our most popular cultivars when introduced in 2024. Healer of Nations is the first (of many) introduction to come from Pinewood Miracle Worker. Healer of Nations is similar in color but has wider petals and a larger, more ruffled edge. The edge has 3 colors, going from purple to lavender to cream on the outside. As a garden plant, it is a standout. Extremely vigorous, this is the first tetraploid to be introduced from the 2020 bloom season. Obviously hardy here due to its rapid increase, it should grow well in a variety of climates. Blooms open well and the bud count is good for our northern climate. As a breeder, Healer of Nations is easily pod and pollen fertile. We had some initial success using pollen from its first bloom season, but 2024 was an eye-opener. 17 seedlings were selected for further evaluation (the most of any pod parent) with Healer of Nations as the pod parent. The seedlings were unique and beautiful with many having been noted as having excellent scapes in year one. We never saw Healer of Nations or its seedlings display any extra petal tissue. Even with Double Blessing as a parent, Healer of Nations does not seem to pass on any traits for those breeding doubles. When we started in daylilies over 30 years ago, pink daylilies were muddy gray or tan with pink overtones. Now we enjoy this true neon pink daylily with large size, a lighter pink watermark, and large green throat. Daylilies have come a long way. Neon Splendor has long been a favorite here for its bright color. In 2024, we had a lot of plants lined out in preparation for sales in 2025 and for several weeks in the early season, it was the star of the garden. Flowers opened well in a variety of weather conditions, held up well in the hot sun, and we had rebloom on some plants. We started hybridizing with Neon Splendor the last few years and observed some promising seedlings from it this summer.
