• From Korth: "In the lore of Tolkien’s Middle Earth, there were three elven rings of power. One was called Narya – the Ring of Fire. This ring was secretly given to Gandalf the Wizard for strength in his battle against Sauron. The flower named for Gandalf’s Ring reminded me of the Ring of Fire with its deep red petal color surrounded by the bright gold edge. While a red flower with a gold edge may not seem unique, several features of this flower make it special. First, the clear and typically unblemished petal color traced back to generations of our breeding for this trait. Second, this is a late season flower – also unique for us as we typically only breed with mid season flowers to make sure we get our seed pods ripe. The gold edge is huge thanks to Harold Steen breeding. Last, the scapes are special with high bud count and lateral branches that branch into a “y” themselves giving extra flowers on each branch. Our top scape had 44 buds in 2019. The flowers open mid-morning and last well all day. While it is fertile both ways, we do not breed with late flowers much so anyone interested in hybridizing with this flower will have unique genetics." Dormant. Up to 44 buds. Pix from Korth. Dormant. • From Korth: "Rich purple petals with lavender watermark, the edge is lavender and gold, the throat is green. Feast of Salvation is the product of crossing two of our best dark purples together. The result is a flower that is darker and richer than Kinsman Redeemer and with a bigger edge and watermark than Dark Jubilee. Its best quality is the rich color that is contrasted with the lighter watermark and bright gold edge. In the garden, Feast of Salvation will draw your attention with the rich color. The flowers open well and it is hardy in our zone 4 climate. Feast of Salvation is fertile both ways and we have some great looking seedlings out of it. The rich color is passed on to the seedlings but we are getting even larger edges from Feast of Salvation seedlings." Dormant. 26 buds. Pix from Korth. (Kinsman Redeemer x Dark Jubilee)

  • From Korth: "Purple petals with wide blue and purple band around large green throat. Green Bandit is the first of several introductions we plan on out of our fine diploid Trash Panda. The clear colors, fine scape, and consistent blooms make it an excellent garden plant. As a hybridizing plant, Green Bandit combines genetics from several breeding lines. Trash Panda contains Arno’s Bow Tie with Emerald Starburst (Doorakian) and Kermit’s Scream (Norris). Green Ghost contains Arno’s Bow Tie plus Cosmic Kaleidoscope (Carpenter). This combination of genetics can lead to a great variety of results. The name combines the racoon theme from Trash Panda (racoons have a bandit type mask around the eyes) with Green Ghost." • We'll be working the blues this summer! And dormant, BONUS! From Gossard: "Flowers are lavender-pink with a grayish-blue inner eye that radiates outward to a blue–purple eye zone and a very green throat. I converted Freedom in Flight to concentrate the blue genetics. As shown in the Heavenly Purplicious description below, this stacking of blue genes makes it a key cultivar for hybridizing blue daylilies. Wait until you see the tetraploid “Agent of Change” seedlings crossed with Freedom Isn’t Free. I have good stock because held for several years to hybridize with, i consider it a $300 daylily." • From Pierce: "An early-mid season, evergreen tetraploid with dependable rebloom, it features plum-purple petals overlaid with a silver-lilac purple watermark that is highlighted by subtle dark veining, and is framed by a tightly ruffled bright white edge. A vivid green throat provides contrast and draws the eye inward, while wide white stripes on the sepals echo the petal edges. With candelabra-style branching and parentage from Norway Lights and Tet. Kaleidoscopic Intrigue, Ghostly Passions combines ethereal coloration, refined structure, and strong garden performance." Evergreen. 35 buds. Pic from Pierce.

  •   From Richard: "Pale pink with rose tips and yellow toothy edge. Another intro from Heavenly New Frontiers. Happy colors that light up the late garden. Fertile both ways. The name comes from an old European folklore tradition where beekeepers would inform their hives of major life events, like births, marriages, or deaths, believing that failing to do so would bring bad luck, causing the bees to leave or die. If someone died, the hive would be draped in black cloth, and the bees would be told the news, sometimes with a solemn knock or song, to keep them from mourning excessively or absconding. It's a practice rooted in the belief that bees are spiritual links to the otherworld and integral members of the household, requiring them to be kept "in the loop"." Semi-evergreen. 17 buds.
