From the hybridizers: "Spacecoast Daylilies does not often introduce many double cultivars, so when we do, you know the daylily is really something special. John Kinnebrew Jr. picked a bloom of Spacecoast Scarlet Desire last May when I was down in Florida and set it on the table where we kept our hybridizing supplies. Each time I came back to it, I was struck by this Voluptuous Beauty. It just Glows, its velvety thick substance and saturated red color combined with its size- blooms literally fill your hand- draws you in again and again with its magnificence. Spacecoast Scarlet Desire, at 99 percent double, is an important daylily in our hybridizing program. Containing the genetics from the converted Double Red Head into a tetraploid, it is literally double the size of its parent and blows you away with its beauty. It's a great advancement in red doubles. The saturated color is super-sunfast, even in the Florida sun. Color and sun fastness is so good we have taken it to single flowers to improve the color of singles. An outstanding garden and show flower. A very easy pod and pollen parent." Semi-evergreen. From Kinnebrew: "As its name suggests, this selection has many favorable qualities, especially from a breeding standpoint. Flowers are lavender in color with a notable lighter halo. Most interesting, is the appliqué patterned throat which often appears on the sepals as well as the petals. This combination is quite unusual.
